Our Place in the Church
What does it mean to be Episcopalian?
The word Episcopal means "bishop" and is used because we are a church governed by bishops. In fact, these bishops date back to the first apostles of Christ. An Episcopalian is someone who is a member of The Episcopal Church. Until the Revolutionary War, we were the Church of England. Today we are part of the Anglican Communion, a gathering of Anglican and Episcopal churches from around the world. The Episcopal Church is comprised of 109 dioceses in 16 nations.
The cornerstones of our faith are: Scripture, tradition, and reason.
We are open to exploring more about God and discovering where God might be leading us, always seeking to fulfill our baptismal covenant.
St. Anne’s is part of the Diocese of East Carolina, with Diocesan office in Kinston.
